My family

Now that I have introduced you to the four very special people in my life I'll introduce you to their parents, aunts and uncles. Thirty years ago we started as a blended family of six. The odds of us surviving were very small, or so everybody told us back then. So after all those years, here we are celebrating yet another event in the life of my amazing family. Yes, I'm very proud of them all. I'll let you guess who belongs to who because after all these years Ron and I tend to forget. They're all 'ours'.

Now it's time to introduce you to my inspiration

These are my four very special people. Don't let anyone tell you that becoming a grandparent means your getting old. It's when you realize you don't have to be a responsible adult anymore. That's the job of your children now. They're the ones that have to raise a family now. You've done that.

'The reason grandparents and grandchildren get along so well is that they have a common enemy.' This is one of my favourite quotes.

Our four keep Grandma and Grandpa young. Sleepovers are the best fun when everyone is in bed together at 7am. Yes, I'm well known for not being a morning person, but when I'm with these little people I can't wait for the fun to start. We don't have to worry about their parents telling us to behave. You'll never get old when you're a grandparent and you'll discover the joy of unconditional love.

All great writers have to start somewhere.

I know I can

I have always wanted to be a writer, ever since I was a kid. Now that I'm in semi-retirement I'm going to chase that dream.

This year I started taking Creative Writing classes at the CAE. Through the like-minded friends I've made this year I discovered something called National Novel Writing Month.

htttp://nanowrimo.org/

The challenge is to write at least 50,000 words in one month, hopefully to eventually become the first draft of the novel we all dream of writing one day.

Last year over 100,000 people took up the challenge. More than 15,000 crossed the finish line in their attempts to produce the Great Frantic Novel in the month of November.

This year, with some of my creative writing, mates we took up the challenge.

I DID IT! I WROTE MY 50,000 WORDS !

Just had to tell someone, so I thought it would be a good way to start my blogging life.

My challenge is for any budding writers at Hobsons Bay Libraries to join me in the challenge next year.
